  30. * Installation
  31.    Version 1.2 is being distributed as both a 16-bit Windows program and 
  32.    a 32-bit windows program.  If you are running Win3.x you must use the 
  33.    16-bit version even if you are running Win32s, because the 32-bit 
  34.    version makes use of 32-bit API calls not supported by Win32s.
  35.    Both the 16-bit and 32-bit versions includes an installation program.
  36.    To install Netscape run the setup.exe program. The Netscape
  37.    installation program will install Netscape in a directory of your
  38.    choice, add a Netscape section to your WIN.INI file, and create a
  39.    Program Manager group and item.
  40.  
  41.    The 32-bit Netscape Navigator stores preferences in the system registry.
  42.

  46.         MAPI Installation
  47. =======================================================================
  48. MAPI is now available in the 32bit version of the Navigator in Win 95
  49. for Mail and News.  This is only for Windows 95 and not NT.
  50. As you know MS Exchange is a mail application, it stores and
  51. orginizes your mail.  Just like MS Mail, Netscape Internet Transport is
  52. a messaging service, but different than MS Mail, and it allows you to
  53. send and receive internet e-mail and post news messages in Netscape.
  54. Enabling the option "Use Exchange client for Mail and News" will not
  55. work correctly unless Netscape Internet Transport in Configured for
  56. MS Exchange app in Control Panel.

  58. To configure MAPI, you will need to do the following if you don't have MS
  59. MAIL already configured.
  60. 1) Adding Netscape Internet Transport
  61.    a) go to the Control Panel
  62.    b) double click on Mail/Fax icon
  63.    c) click on the Add button
  64.    d) Select Netscape Internet Transport, click on Next
  65.    at this point follow the Inbox Setup Wizard.
  66.    f) When you are done, click on Properties and make sure
  67.       that Netscape Internet Transport is list under Services.

  69. To configure MAPI when you have MS MAIL already configured do the 
  70. following.
  71. 1) Adding Netscape Internet Transport to your existing Profile
  72.    a) go to the Control Panel
  73.    b) double click on Mail/Fax icon
  74.    c) click on the Add button
  75.    d) Select Netscape Internet Transport under the list of available
  76.       Information Services. Click on OK
  77.    e) Fill out the the forms for USERS and HOST. Click OK
  78. 2) Adding Netscape Internet Transport to a new Profile
  79.    a) go to the Control Panel
  80.    b) double click on Mail/Fax icon
  81.    c) click on Show Profiles
  82.    d) click on Add
  83.    e) Select Netscape Internet Transport, click on Next
  84.    f) enter the Profile Name
  85.    at this point follow the Inbox Setup Wizard.
  86.    g) When you are done, click on Properties and make sure
  87.       that Netscape Internet Transport is list under Services.

  89. If you don't have MS Exchange already installed and you have already
  90. installed the Netscape Navigator, you will need to reinstall the 
  91. Navigator once you have installed MS Exchange.

  94.         Win32s
  95. ========================================================================
  96. If you are running version 1.15 or below of Win32s, you will be unable to
  97. install the Netscape Navigator unless you upgrade to version 1.20 of Win32s
  98. or you remove Win32.

  100. You can determine which version of Win32s you have in one of two ways:
  101.     - check the WIN32S.INI file in your Windows system directory
  102.     - if you are running Windows for Workgroups, select the WIN32S16.DLL 
  103.       file from the Windows system directory in File Manager. Then from 
  104.       the File menu, choose Properties. The Version line contains the 
  105.       major version and the build number. 
  106.  
  107. To remove Win32s, do the following:
  108.  
  109. 1. Remove the following line from the [386Enh] section in the SYSTEM.INI 
  110.    file:
  111.       device=<WINDOWS>\<SYSTEM>\win32s\w32s.386
  112.    where <WINDOWS> and <SYSTEM> are where the Windows and System
  113.    directories are, respectively.
  114. 2. Remove winmm16.dll from the following line from the [BOOT] section in 
  115.    the SYSTEM.INI file:
  116.       drivers=mmsystem.dll winmm16.dll
  117. 3. Delete the following files from the <WINDOWS>\<SYSTEM> subdirectory:
  118.       W32SYS.DLL
  119.       WIN32S16.DLL
  120.       WIN32S.INI
  121. 4. Delete all the files in the <WINDOWS>\<SYSTEM>\WIN32S subdirectory.
  122.    Then delete the subdirectory itself.
  123. 5. Restart Windows.
  124. Here's how you can obtain Win32s version 1.2 which Microsoft refers
  125. to as application note PW1118:
  126.   To obtain this Application Note (number PW1118) and the files
  127.   included with it, download PW1118.EXE, a self-extracting file,
  128.   from the Microsoft Software Library (MSL) on the following services:
  129.    - CompuServe
  130.         GO MSL
  131.         Search for PW1118.EXE
  132.         Display results and download
  133.    - Microsoft Download Service (MSDL)
  134.         Dial (206) 936-6735 to connect to MSDL
  135.         Download PW1118.EXE
  136.    - Internet (anonymous FTP)
  137.         ftp ftp.microsoft.com
  138.         Change to the \SOFTLIB\MSLFILES directory
  139.         Get PW1118.EXE

  143. The Netscape install program for Windows 3.1 and Windows for Workgroups
  144. will install the following OLE2 files into the Windows System directory 
  145. if either there is no existing DLL or the existing DLL is older:

  160. The Netscape installer will overwrite existing OLE2 DLLs with the latest
  161. versions for US Windows. This will not affect 32-bit Windows. For 16-bit
  162. Windows, the only difference between the US and the Japanese versions are
  163. the internationalization of error strings.
  164. Occasionally, the Japanese user may see an English language OLE2 error
  165. message after installing Netscape.
  166. Currently, there are no Japanese versions available for the OLE2 DLLs.
  167. Netscape is working with Microsoft to make the Japanese version of the 
  168. OLE2 DLLs available.

  170.         Running Netscape
  171. =======================================================================
  172. What do I need to run Netscape Navigator?
  173. You must have a direct Internet connection before you can use Netscape.
  174. The ability to send and receive e-mail does not necessarily mean you can
  175. run Netscape. There are three requirements for Netscape Navigator 1.2:
  176.     1. A direct Ethernet connection to the net, or a dialup
  177.        SLIP or PPP account from an Internet service provider.
  178.     2. TCP/IP stack
  179.     3. Netscape Navigator software
  180.  
  181. You can get a direct connection to the Internet through a service
  182. provider in your area.  You will need to get a SLIP or a PPP account
  183. from an Internet provider (for a dialup account).
  184.  
  185. When you have full Internet connectivity, you need to have a TCP/IP
  186. stack, dialer, and WINSOCK.DLL file.
  187.

  189.         Cannot Find WINSOCK.DLL
  190. =======================================================================
  191.  
  192. If you get the error message "Cannot find WINSOCK.DLL" when running 
  193. Netscape Navigator that means your computer is looking for the WINSOCK.DLL
  194. file, which is part of a winsock package (also includes dialer, 
  195. TCP/IP stack).
  196.  
  197. A winsock package makes it so that your PC can talk TCP/IP, which is 
  198. necessary for Netscape to run. See the "Running Netscape" section for 
  199. details on running the Netscape Navigator, and the "Obtaining a Winsock 
  200. Package" section for suggestions on obtaining a winsock package.

  203.         Obtaining a Winsock Package

  206. You can get the shareware winsock package, which is called Trumpet
  207. Winsock (v1.0) via ftp from
  208.

  211. Other winsock packages which we have tested without problems are:

  213.     FTP Software's PC/TCP
  214.     NetManage
  215.     Microsoft WFW (Wolverine)
  216.     Microsoft NT

  218. Implementation (general):
  219. Put the winsock in its own directory, for example, C:\WINSOCK,
  220. and include the directory in your DOS PATH statement.

  222. Enter Windows, create a group in the Program Manager for all files
  223. with your winsock program.
  224.  
  225. Please be sure that the Netscape directory is in your path located
  226. in your autoexec.bat file. You may need to add:
  227.  
  228. PATH=C:\(name of the directory where netscape is located)
  229. After making this change, save the file and reboot your computer.
